Abstract
The Student Managed Investment Course (SMIC) is a unique program run by TAPMI which focuses on teaching students how to implement the learnings of portfolio management and valuation of stocks. Students are expected to participate in the stock selection process and cover different industry sectors and prepare detailed research report on the same. To accomplish the above objective each student in SMIC is given a corpus of Rs 25000/- and are grouped in a team comprising of five members. Hence, each team has a resultant corpus of Rs.1,25,000/-. The teams are expected to invest the same in a list of pre-approved stocks spanning over five months. The fund would then be liquidated in the first week of March and the entire proceeds after paying income tax would be transferred back to TAPMI. Our team’s investment strategy was guided by our investment philosophy – “To identify and invest in fundamentally strong companies and use technical analysis to time market entry and exit, to generate profits”.
