Abstract
Team Stock Hunters believed in investing in stocks that minimise the risk for investors and make use of the changing economic environment. The team was provided with a corpus of INR 1,50,000 to invest in common equity for a time horizon of 5 months. Investing and trading in commodities, derivatives, bond market, foreign exchange and short-selling was restricted. The investments were restricted to common equity whose market capitalisation was above Rs. 300 crores. The initial phase of investment involved identifying the risk-taking capacity of individuals and then arriving at an investment philosophy. This was followed by benchmark selection of NIFTY50. In the second phase we boiled down to few sectors which contain stocks inline with the investment philosophy. To identify potential stocks certain parameters such as market capitalisation, profits, operating margin, Return on Equity, Return on Capital Employed, EPS and revenue growth and Profitability ratios were used. Quantitative approaches were used to determine the weights for asset allocation. We adopted Minimum Variance Portfolio for asset allocation as that was matching our risk profile and thus investment philosophy.
