Abstract

‘Evolution of Business Analytics’, highlights the motivation for studying business analytics and the difference that this discipline can make in today’s business environment. The chapter orients the readers about the emergence of business analytics in a chronological manner. Various schools of thoughts that define business analytics differently have been discussed. One of the key takeaways from this chapter is the prescription to be followed to become an analytics project manager, a job profile that is in very high demand nowadays. In the end, the chapter elaborates on the advantages of and challenges in using business analytics so that the readers may become well aware of the limitations and scope of business analytics. Finally, the chapter shows the different levels of analytic maturity that are possible to attain and also discusses real-world success stories of business analytics in action through corporate cases
