Abstract
In this study, two different perspectives on absorptive capacity were adopted to examine its impact on ERP assimilation. While the results reaffirm earlier work showing the importance of connectedness and cross-functional interfaces on ERP assimilation, other two factors (prior IT knowledge and formalization) were not found to be positively related to ERP assimilation. To obtain more insights regarding the latter unexpected results, the study checked how the nature of company ownership (private or state-owned) might exert an interaction effect. The results pointed to the existence of a negative relationship between prior IT knowledge and ERP implementation particularly in the case of private companies as opposed to state-owned firms. The theoretical and practical implications of these results are subsequently discussed.
