Abstract
Stand-alone communication courses are still the dominant model in both Indian and US schools. Communication courses are taught separately and not integrated into the main course curriculum in a formal manner by communication faculty working alongside with the rest of the faculty. Although this may over-generalize, it suggests the background against which the authors revised their management communication instruction at the T. A. Pai Management Institute (TAPMI) in Manipal, Karnataka, India. Their new approach aligns with the ongoing restructuring of the Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM). This article describes the selection process for students in the program, the program's mission and general approach, a division into 10 themes spread over 2 years, and, details the first 6 themes which are currently being implemented: (1) Personal competency; (2) Individual and roles; (3) Firms and markets; (4) Management in practice and outbound program; (5) Firm functions; and (6) Firm performance.
